An aware artist or a sexy crackpot? She was an Icelandic painter and a filmmaker but most of all she was a rebel. Living in Rome for thirty years she despised bourgeois life and lived the ideas of the 68’ generation right to the end while she was struggling with her own demons, drugs and epilepsy.
Ásthildur Kjartansdóttir has produced and directed many
films of all kind, dramas, documentaries and TV programs.
Most of her films have been distributed in Iceland and
several film festivals but two have been distributed in
two other Nordic countries and Canada as well. Two of
her documentaries have been nominated for Edda, The
Icelandic Film prize award for the best documentary and
two of her dramas have been nominated for the Icelandic
DV cultural award.
